Chiropractic is a drugless and non-surgical form of therapy, and with the
McTimoney approach gentleness and reliance on the hand are emphasised. The
swiftness of the adjustments requires great sensitivity and skill, and once
mastered the McTimoney method has proved to be extremely effective.
The chiropractor will examine by hand (palpate) the bones and joints of the
body to check for imbalance, however slight. McTimoney chiropractors have
a very finely tuned sense of touch, developed during their five years of training.
This enables them to pick up misalignments in joints throughout the body,
for instance between vertebrae in the spine. Any problems found are corrected
with various adjustments which are effective and safe.
Rather than forcing bones into place, McTimoney treatment aims to help the body to realign itself using a series of fast, precise and gentle adjustments.
If areas of the body are out of balance, they can affect the whole; therefore the entire body is assessed at each treatment. McTimoney chiropractic aims to restore nerve function in order to promote natural health. This involves re-educating the patient's muscles and bones into a better alignment. It is also a preventative therapy and can greatly improve overall health and well-being.
